Crisis Averted...Maybe

It's funny how problems sometimes solve themselves...

Today's taekwondo class was tough--physically and mentally.

I'm not sure if it was my lack of sleep from this week, but I was having a hard time keeping up with the techniques. We did combination kicks, which was terribly hard for me. My technique was off, I lost my balance, and my kicks had no power. I need to work on the (spinning) hook kick, outer crescent, spinning side, and axe kick.

Later, we practiced forms in slow motion, stances-only, facing different starting directions, with eyes closed, and kiai (yell) on only attacking moves. I messed up on 2 out of the 3 forms I learned, which mean I didn't know them as well as I thought I did. As a comparison, I can do Seisan Kata in karate in all sorts of different ways without messing up too badly.

It made me realize that up until now, I've been thrown a lot of soft balls. This led me to believe that I could handle both karate and taekwondo during the school year (see dilemma below). Now, I definitely know that I will stick with karate, so I can better focus on only studying one art with full dedication. Yes, it will be hard to leave the friends I have made here in the dojang, but they will have their art, and I will have mine.
